Villa Rejuvenation

This home is a grand villa on a tiny inner city site that appeared to present its most impressive façade of two-storey bay windows either side of the front door to another large villa hard up on the side boundary. By contrast the elevation to the street was, despite another two storey bay window, rather bland and severe. To create more street appeal a delicate verandah was added at ground floor level and subtle sun shades added to the upper floor and north boundary windows to cast shadows and enliven the façade. Original detailing in the gables of all three two-storey bay windows was reinstated and corrugated steel roofing replaced with copper spoutings and downpipes.
To the rear of the house a separate right-of-way vehicle access for the owners and guests demanded this façade also receive a cosmetic lift, this time with two-storeys of verandahs, tiered such that the lower verandah extends out beyond the upper one to provide useable cover for outdoor dining from the family room. 
The existing garage has been replaced with a new garage repeating the roof pitch and decorative elements of the original home and linking to the back door with a covered way.
Internally all principal rooms retained their grandeur with fireplaces restored, pressed metal ceilings preserved, floors polished and original mouldings replicated but the farmhouse kitchen was rejuvenated with classically styled cabinetry (by Joanne Godding of Bespoke on Khyber) and secondary spaces reconfigured to form a butler’s pantry, separate laundry and powder room for guests.  Upstairs a very generous master bedroom suite with dressing room and marble lined bathroom was created on one side of the grand staircase and a study, two guest bedrooms, each with en suite bathroom, to the other side. Cabinetry styling of the kitchen has been continued through the bathrooms, study and family room whilst all windows have been dressed with internal timber shutters painted white.
