Design and build engagement with Fletcher Construction South Pacific for the new Telecommunications Authority Building near Tafuna International Airport.
This new building is at the landing site for the South Pacific Islands Network (SPIN) fibre optic cable. It also houses a new local exchange, customer service facilities and offices. Adding a fourth floor halfway through the construction phase added three months to the programme as larger steel roof members had to be designed to handle the live load of the new floor. At the time of completion it was the only building in American Samoa to exceed three floors. The building is clad in aluminium composite panels and a cyclone rated glazing system. The design was started in 2009 and the building was completed in April 2011 at a cost of $US 4.2 million. |
